This is the site of the proud Scottish border Clan of Carruthers and their Official Clan Society (Clan Carruthers Society-International).
Ancient by our history and honourable by our actions and as Border Reivers, family always comes first.
We are and remain proud of our Scottish heritage from wherever we hail; be it the border lands of Scotland to all corners of the Earth, we stand as a Clan, 'Ready and Faithful' (Promptus et Fidelis).
NB: As a society (we are not an LLC based in the US), we are here to support the official and only route for recognition as a Scottish Clan: that of having a Chief legally recognised through matriculation of the Chiefly Arms of Carruthers of Holmains and enshrined in Scottish law.
Thiscan only be done through the Lord Lyon in Edinburgh whose jurisdiction is within Scotland, but whose authority and recognition in such matters is international. Currently there is information with the Lyon Court to have a chief recognised and we await his decision on the matter.
As there are senior descendents of our Clan who can evidence their lineage, self appointing chiefs or chieftains is not a legal option for us, if we are to be taken seriously.
Anyone therefore claiming to be a chief of our clan and their are only two contenders, both living in the UK, would be proven by being invited on to the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs, thus ensuring international recognition and dialogue for Clan Carruthers going forwards.
Only a legally recognised chief of Clan Carruthers can chose Chieftains of the clan, unless their heritage is evidenced as being a senior of our line. Please visit our Clan Roll Call page on this site and sign in. http://www.clancarruthers.com/clan-roll-call.html
